| DESCRIPTION OF RACES
There are five Commonwealth races in the game: Maloqs, Pelengs, Humans, Faeyans and Gaalians. There is also an “enemy” race of Klissans. Races here are presented in ascending order of technology development and equipment quality. Maloqs
Maloqs are large, formidable humanoids. They are characterized by huge physical strength, endurance and high resistance to adverse environments. Their intelligence is weak, and they would eat almost anything. These characteristics allow Maloqs to survive and multiply quickly in most unfavorable conditions. Maloqs worship power. This could be anything: physical power and strong spirit, power of words and actions, weapons and leadership: all these are the only true values of Maloqi civilization. Maloqs do not like feeble Faeyans and intellectual Gaalians. Maloqs are the most technologically retarded civilization in the Commonwealth. This is the consequence of their traditional distrust of intellectual activity, which so often leads to free and original thinking that is perceived as being most dangerous to Maloqi stability. Another reason for slow technological development is huge expenditure for military purposes and colonial economy support. However, what Maloqs are lacking in diplomatic and technological spheres is compensated by other priority directions: a huge well-armed fleet and extensive colonization policies. Pelengs
Pelengs are gill-necked amphibians of Leprass genus. These creatures are equally well adapted both to aquatic and land habitats, they are able to breathe in almost all kinds of gas mixtures provided that they include at least some nitrogen. Like any other Leprasses, Pelengs eat acid plankton and calolic reef sediments. Pelengs are pirates, saboteurs and provocateurs. Though officially they are the members of the Galactic Commonwealth, in fact, they have neither economic nor diplomatic relations with other races. A direct and immediate profit by any means is the only possible goal both for a single Peleng and Pelengan civilization as a whole. Pelengs treat all other races as equally badly. Especially if those races are more intelligent than themselves. Pelengan attempts to overcome their lag in technology have resulted in designing a most advanced system of industrial espionage. Pelengan organization “Dzukhallag” is the best espionage and diversionary institution in the whole Commonwealth. Humans
Humans are humanoids of average height, with thin fragile skeleton, they eat organic protein food. Significant variety in climate zones on the oldest inhabited planets (especially in solar system) has greatly diversified their complexion, general build, facial features, etc. Humans are, first and foremost, psychologists, politicians and diplomats. Rhetoric, psychological games and political technologies are the major Human strong points. Humans and Faeyans are friends forever, and as for Maloqs, Humans have never be able to come to terms with them. Human attitude to Pelengs and Gaalians is unremarkable. Human technological development is average. All their main achievements lie in politics and economy. They have implemented the concept of a common galactic market, so eventually it became possible to buy and sell goods freely, provided they were legal for this particular planet (a universal list of illegal goods has yet to be agreed). And, of course, the main achievement has been the implementation of a common monetary unit - galactic credit! Other things include a common chronological system based on Human time standards and achieving agreement on free transit of citizens. Faeyans
Faeyans are androgynous humanoids with a large faceted brain and eyes. They are slow-moving feeble creatures, most of their activity is directed towards thinking. A Faeyan can randomly divide his consciousness and faceted vision into independently functioning parts, thus forming an arbitrary amount of autonomous and independent areas of consciousness that perceive the surrounding world through their own parts of sight facets. Faeyans are characterized by the highest level of the natural intellectual faculties. They are philosophers, researchers and innovators cultivating a unique culture and promoting their own original concept of the Universe. Faeyans worship Gaalians and treat Humans fondly, much like their favorite younger intelligent brothers. Faeyans consider Maloqs to be animals than intelligent creatures. As for Pelengan spies hunting for Faeyan technologies, Faeyeans have no mercy for them when they are caught. The most important function of Faeyans in the Commonwealth is research projects in all directions. It was Faeyan institutes that conducted and completed fundamental research on black holes in 2882, and their findingshave been used in new technologies of null-passage and in working prototypes of the modern vortex projector. Gaals
Gaalians (children of Gaal) are humanoids who have been modifying their physical form by means of the embryo genetic technology for thousands of years. The original form of Gaalians is now long forgotten. Gaalian history originates in the ancient times when of all the commonwealth races, Gaalians were the only intelligent creatures. They are now patrons and motivators of space, promoting constructive partnership and non-violent behavior. They use their military fleet only to prevent the impending conflicts and to support stability in the Commonwealth. Gaals treat all other races equally well. They believe that no matter how badly their individual representatives behave themselves, potentially they are all carriers of positive tendencies inside and have, as the minimum, three rights: to life, to defined virtue and inner motivation. As the result, Gaalians treat everybody as friends and partners even when they are not. Klissans
Klissans are a mysterious race and the player will have to find out who they really are and why they came to this world. They are known to have a mothership called "Makhpella". Finding out the reason for their invasion is only possible by asking her. But no one ever has yet managed to understand her talk. Klissan ships are fearless, they do not negotiate and never plead for mercy. Klissan technologies are at least equal to Gaalian achievements, that is, they are extremely advanced. Klissans have most destructive weapons, and the Commonwealth races can only guess what principles are used in their construction. Klissan ship structure has not been studied well as it's impossible to scan them. Nobody has ever managed to capture a complete ship, only their fragments called "protoplasm". Debris falling out of Klissan ships is much sought after by scientists and industry. Therefore, the quantity of protoplasm supplied has been chosen to estimate the activity of individual rangers. The more protoplasm a pilot brings to a Rangers’ center, the better fighter with Klissans he is. |
